Ayush Malik Conversion Case: Chandni Qureshi a gym trainer had managed to get Ayush Malik, a resident of Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, converted to Islam.
He adopted the name Mohammad Ali. Following a complaint lodged by Ayush's father the police arrested Ayush Malik's wife, Chandni Qureshi, and his father-in-law, Islam Qureshi.
A case has been registered against nine individuals in connection with the matter.
In this sequence of events, the police have also arrested Taufiq Qureshi, a Samajwadi Party leader who is accused of involvement in Ayush Malik's religious conversion.
A "Nikah-nama" (marriage certificate) has been recovered from Taufiq's possession.
The police reported that six other accused remain at large; the list of absconding suspects includes the cleric who solemnized the marriage between Ayush and Chandni.
